New direct shipping route opens between Shandong and Hainan

Shandong Port Group (SPG) has expanded its domestic maritime network with a new route connecting Dongying Port to Yangpu Port in Hainan province. The route began operations on Jan 12 with the departure of the vessel Donghaizhiyuan.

Operated by Cosco Container Lines Co Ltd, this key link connects the Yellow River Delta directly with the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP). By using Dongying's multimodal transportation infrastructure, the route creates a crucial north-south logistical corridor. This effort streamlines the handling of both domestic and foreign trade, cutting logistical costs and providing a stable, low-carbon option for cargo distribution.

In addition to domestic connectivity, the new service utilizes Hainan FTP's status as a regional hub to extend SPG's reach into South China and Southeast Asian markets. The operation is based at Dongying Port's first professional container berth, with an annual capacity of over 300,000 TEUs and fills a critical gap in northern Shandong's shipping infrastructure.

This expansion makes SPG's network more efficient overall and reinforces Bohai Bay Port's role as a key maritime gateway for the Yellow River Basin, promoting deeper integration between regional industries and international markets.
