Dongying: A vision of ecological harmony, modern progress

Where the Yellow River meets the Bohai Sea, Dongying is redefining high-quality development. As the city of the Yellow River Delta, Dongying is successfully integrating environmental stewardship, technological innovation, and social prosperity into a cohesive model for the future.

Dongying's commitment to nature reached a historic milestone in July 2024, when its migratory bird sanctuaries were officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city now protects over 20,000 hectares of freshwater wetlands, supporting a thriving ecosystem that hosts 405 bird species.

Dongying is maximizing the potential of its 227,000 hectares of saline-alkali land. Through advanced national technological research and development, the city has introduced 68 salt-tolerant crop species, creating a sustainable "new granary" for the region.

While the Shengli Oilfield continues to ensure national energy security — producing over 23 million metric tons of crude oil in 2025 — Dongying is rapidly pivoting toward renewables. With the full integration of the offshore wind projects, the city's renewable energy capacity now exceeds 10 million kilowatts, more than double its coal-fired power capacity.
