Since the start of winter, the swan resting grounds in Weihai Nanhai New Area have welcomed the peak of swan migration. Pristine white swans spread their wings and glide playfully across the water, their elegance mirrored against the turquoise waves and golden sands, painting a picturesque scene of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
As a nationally protected second-tier species, swans have high demands for their living environment. Their increasing numbers year by year serve as a vivid testament to the continuous improvement of the local ecosystem. Nanhai New Area has consistently adhered to the principle of “not occupying an inch of beach, not destroying a single pine tree, and not disrupting any waterway.”By continuously restoring coastal wetlands, rehabilitating rivers, and establishing ecological corridors that connect river systems with wetlands, the area has enriched aquatic biodiversity. These efforts provide ample food sources and high-quality habitats for swans and other migratory birds.
It is not only swans that find refuge here. Within the region’s abundant wetland resources, many migratory birds have discovered an ideal winter habitat. Their presence, alongside the swans, weaves a vibrant ecological tapestry. According to statistics, Weihai Nanhai New Area has attracted over 300 species of birds, including nationally protected first- and second-tier species such as the Oriental Stork, Chinese Merganser, and Red-crowned Crane. It has truly earned its reputation as a “bird paradise.”
