As early spring arrives, the Wuleidao Bay National Wetland Park in Wendeng Nanhai New Area is unfolding a picturesque spring scene with the migration of migratory birds. The Baer’s pochard, a critically endangered species under first-class national protection, and the scaly-sided merganser, a second-class national protected animal known as the “Panda Duck,” have been spotted here for the first time, resting, swimming and foraging peacefully, forming a beautiful scene of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

As a globally endangered species, the Baer’s pochard has extremely strict requirements for water quality, aquatic organism abundance and habitat conditions, serving as a key indicator of wetland ecosystem health. With its unique appearance and sensitive response to environmental changes, the scaly-sided merganser is also an important witness to the ecological quality of this wetland.

Endowed with superior natural conditions, Nanhai New Area has become a golden stopover for migratory birds. Benefiting from ten thousand mu of ecological wetland and the commitment to ecological conservation and green development, the area has continuously promoted wetland restoration and improved aquatic ecological environment, resulting in lush vegetation, abundant food and significantly enhanced ecological carrying capacity.Today, with continuous ecological improvement, Weihai Nanhai New Area has become a warm habitat for more than 300 bird species.
