Recently, Meng Zhaoli, the 18th-generation inheritor of Meihuaquan (Plum Blossom Boxing)—a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage of China—traveled to Ravenna, Italy, at the special invitation of his Italian disciple Endrick, to carry out a dedicated martial arts cultural exchange program. The event allowed this traditional Chinese martial art to showcase its timeless charm on European soil, building a bridge of friendly people-to-people cultural exchange between China and Italy.
Meng Zhaoli has long been devoted to the inheritance and promotion of Meihuaquan. He is not only proficient in its complete repertoire of forms, combat techniques, and weapon routines, but also steadfastly upholds the martial philosophy of "cultivating virtue through practice and balancing literary refinement with martial discipline." Over the years, he has been actively engaged in teaching and popularizing Meihuaquan, attracting a large number of enthusiasts from home and abroad. Several of his Italian disciples have persisted in studying the art under his online and offline guidance, deeply captivated by traditional Chinese martial culture.

The exchange event, fully organized and coordinated by Meng’s Italian disciples, was held at a local martial arts hall in Ravenna. At the event, Meng first performed a complete demonstration of Meihuaquan’s fundamental routines, offensive and defensive techniques, and characteristic weapon forms. His movements—combining hardness with softness, and dynamic tension with stillness—vividly illustrated the unique essence of Meihuaquan, which integrates internal and external cultivation, physical fitness, and moral self-discipline. The local martial arts enthusiasts were able to experience the profound depth of traditional Chinese martial arts at close range.
Following the performance, Meng provided targeted guidance to local martial arts students, correcting their postures and techniques. He also patiently explained the traditional cultural connotations embedded in Meihuaquan and the importance of martial ethics, while addressing their daily training questions. In addition, he reviewed regular training progress with his Italian disciples, refined their skills in detail, and strengthened the cross-cultural bond between master and students.
In recent years, as traditional Chinese culture continues to go global, Meihuaquan has gained a growing number of overseas fans thanks to its distinctive martial appeal. This cross-border exchange not only served as an in-depth technical interaction between master and disciples, but also as a meaningful overseas dissemination of intangible cultural heritage martial arts. Meng Zhaoli stated that in the future, he plans to leverage his network of overseas disciples to organize regular international martial arts exchange activities, so that more people abroad can understand Chinese martial arts and fall in love with traditional Chinese culture. With martial arts as a bond, he aims to foster mutual understanding and appreciation between the Chinese and Italian peoples.
