Global Confucius Institute Day celebration activities were held

On September 26, 2026 local time, the Sofia Confucius Institute was bustling with activity. A cultural event that combined Chinese and Bulgarian art and carried the essence and blessings of the festival was held as scheduled. This event took advantage of the Global Confucius Institute Day and was jointly organized with Mudan District, Heze City, Shandong Province, to hold a themed cultural workshop. Chinese and foreign guests, Chinese language learners, and Chinese culture enthusiasts gathered together, sharing the friendship between China and Bulgaria through calligraphy and traditional handicrafts.

At the event site of the Sofia Confucius Institute, a variety of traditional handicraft experiences attracted many participants to stop and experience. The traditional handicraft section was rich and diverse, including tambourines, shadow puppets, ancient-style fan painting, seasonal painting rubbing, grain painting, making handheld fish lanterns, porcelain with eternal flowers, lion dance embroidery, headdress with hairpins, and making traditional Chinese opera face paintings. Participants touched the Chinese traditional handicrafts with their own hands, experiencing the profound heritage of traditional Chinese customs and handicrafts in close contact through every stitch and stroke, every line and dot.

Chinese and Bulgarian painters collaborated remotely to paint peonies. Chinese painter Huang Guoqiang used his brush to paint online, presenting the artistic conception of traditional Chinese painting. Bulgarian painter Vilev worked on the spot with a pen, interpreting the beauty of peonies in the local style. Under the demonstration and guidance of the two painters, the students at the scene learned to paint peonies by writing, immersing themselves in the beauty of peony culture.

This event took advantage of the triple significance of the Global Confucius Institute Day, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the National Day to build a platform for cultural exchange and mutual learning among the people of China and Bulgaria. It allowed Chinese language learners in Bulgaria to directly experience the charm of Chinese excellent traditional culture, further deepening the cultural exchanges between China and Bulgaria and continuing to write a new chapter of mutual understanding and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
