China’s First Offshore CO₂ Injection and Gas Enhancement Platform Enters Commissioning

The new central platform for China’s first offshore carbon injection and gas enhancement demonstration project at the Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field has recently entered commissioning at COOEC’s high-end equipment base in Qingdao.
　　With a weight of nearly 17,000 tons, the platform is taller than a 28-story building. Its decks span over 10,000 square meters, roughly equivalent to 22 standard basketball courts.
　　The platform is designed to capture associated carbon dioxide from the gas field. Following purification and pressurization, the CO₂ is re-injected into subsurface formations, thereby enhancing natural gas recovery and enabling geological CO₂ storage.
　　Once operational, the project will sequester over one million tons of carbon dioxide annually, serving as a key demonstration for deep decarbonization in the marine energy sector.
