Celebrating the Qixi Festival with Weihai’s Rural Artists

As the Qixi Festival approaches, Weihai-based rural painter Li Zuozuo and his wife, Li Zonghua, are using their skilled hands to preserve local folk traditions. They have painstakingly crafted Qixi flower and maltose pie—two types of pastries unique to Weihai’s Qixi Festival—which embody the wisdom of the working people and express their hopes for a better life. At the same time, they have collaborated on Qixi-themed paper-cutting artworks, weaving traditional craftsmanship into their own love story. With every cut, every fold, every knead, and every pinch, they gently convey the warmth and charm of the Qixi Festival.
