Amid rising global electricity demand and AI-driven computing power needs, efficient coal power is gaining renewed importance. On July 28, the world's first 630°C-class double-reheat ultra-supercritical million-kilowatt coal-fired unit—the Datang Yuncheng 630°C National Power Demonstration Project—was fully commissioned and put into operation. This project has broken through the efficiency bottleneck of traditional coal-fired power generation, achieving a design thermal efficiency of 50.05%, a main steam pressure of 35.5 MPa, a reheat steam temperature of 631°C, and a coal consumption rate of 256.28 g/kWh. It is also a landmark project that, for the first time in the global coal-fired power sector, has surpassed the 50% thermal efficiency threshold. At the same time, China's independently developed high-temperature heat-resistant steel G115® has been applied in engineering for the first time, resolving the long-standing "bottleneck" issue of relying on imports for critical materials in China's coal-fired power industry.
