Four Generations of Perseverance! Rizhaos Bamboo Weavers Revitalize a Traditional Craft

　　在日照市岚山区碑廓镇丁家庄村，竹编技艺历经百年传承，在王培宇手中焕发新生。作为家族第四代传人，他自小受祖辈熏陶，十三四岁便能独立编织竹器，对这门乡土手艺怀有深厚情感。
　　王培宇恪守古法，选材必用质地紧实的老竹，从破篾刮青到编织收口，全程纯手工制作。一把传承近七十年的老竹刀，见证了他数十年的坚守。他不仅熟练掌握回字纹等经典编法，更独创圆形编织技法，在传统基础上不断精进。
　　守正之外，王培宇积极创新。他耗时半月创作刻有“岚山”字样的大型竹编笸箩，将乡土文化与技艺深度融合。同时，他开发竹编福字、风铃、小马等文创作品，让竹编从实用器具拓展为兼具观赏性与艺术性的文化载体。
　　为传承非遗，王培宇常年开设研学课堂，手把手教授青少年基础编织技法。他说，竹编不仅是谋生手艺，更是珍贵的乡土记忆，希望通过沉浸式体验让更多年轻人接触并爱上这门技艺。
　　一根青竹，四代匠心。王培宇以古法守住根基，以创新激活传统，以研学播撒种子，让百年竹编在岚山大地生生不息，持续绽放时代光彩。
　　In Dingjiazhuang Village, Beikuo Town, Lanshan District, Rizhao City, the craft of bamboo weaving has been passed down through generations for over a century and has now been revitalized in the hands of Wang Peiyu. As the fourth-generation inheritor of his family, he was immersed in the craft from an early age under the influence of his elders. By the age of thirteen or fourteen, he could already weave bamboo articles on his own, and he holds a deep affection for this local tradition.
　　Wang Peiyu strictly adheres to traditional methods. He selects only mature bamboo with a firm, dense texture, and completes every step—from splitting and scraping the strips to weaving and finishing the rim—entirely by hand. An old bamboo-cutting knife, passed down for nearly seventy years, stands as a testament to his decades of dedication. He has not only mastered classic patterns such as the squared-spiral (hui) weave but has also developed an original circular weaving technique, continuously refining his skills while staying true to the foundations of the craft.
　　While preserving the orthodox approach, Wang Peiyu is also an active innovator. He spent half a month creating a large, shallow bamboo basket bearing the characters "Lan Shan," deeply integrating local culture with his artistic practice. He has also produced a range of creative cultural products, including woven bamboo "Fu" (fortune) characters, wind chimes, and small horses, expanding bamboo weaving from purely utilitarian objects into cultural artifacts that are both ornamental and artistic.
　　To pass on this intangible cultural heritage, Wang Peiyu regularly holds educational workshops where he teaches young people basic weaving techniques in a hands-on manner. He says that bamboo weaving is not merely a means of making a living, but a precious part of his hometown's cultural memory. He hopes that through immersive experiences, more young people will come into contact with this craft and develop a genuine love for it.
