Qingdao No.1 Bathing Beach has recently welcomed some special "visitors" in its seawater—a school of people-friendly barred knifejaw. They appear near the anti-shark nets every early morning, not only following swimmers around but also coming over to eat mussels tossed to them. A resident who filmed the video said, "Qingdao's environment has really improved in recent years. I think it's a big change that we can now see barred knifejaw in coastal waters."
It is understood that in recent years, the presence and movements of rare marine species such as whale sharks and finless porpoises have been recorded multiple times in Qingdao's coastal waters and even in the Yellow Sea. This indicates that the integrity and health of the Yellow Sea ecosystem, represented by Qingdao's coastal waters, are steadily recovering, and that the results of marine biodiversity conservation are gradually emerging.
